Clifford Baggs, 92, of Pickens, Oklahoma passed away October 12, 2016 at his home. Clifford was born November 14, 1923 in Pickens, Oklahoma to Ora Lee and Winnie Hill Baggs.
He married Patricia Ruth Dagenhart in May of 1951 in Pickens, Oklahoma. They lived a wonderful 63 years together.
Clifford was of the Baptist Faith and lived most of his life in Pickens, Oklahoma. After graduating from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, he relocated to Midland, Texas working for Shell Oil Co. for 25 years. He then returned to Pickens for the last 40 years.
He loved to fish and hunt, traveling to Alaska, Canada, Mexico and other destinations to pursue his interest. Not only were his cattle his livelihood, but they were also his passion. Clifford was an accomplished woodworker, completing many projects for his family and home over the years. He coached and loved Little League Baseball. Clifford and his wife Patricia, supported and donated to the local baseball team in the community. He enjoyed watching the little league world series later in life on television.
Through many of life’s trials including the Great Depression, World War II, droughts, ice storms and tornados he maintained a positive attitude, never gave up and kept moving forward.
He was born in a log cabin, plowed fields behind a mule, had a horse for transportation and rode a wagon for 2 days to sell hogs and cotton 35 miles away. He merged into a world of moon landings, jets to Alaska and Canada, cable TV, driving the new truck to town and using cell phones. He never did learn to use a computer, but he could out add us any day.
Clifford was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He generously gave of his time, compassion and wisdom. He had an incredible sense of humor and was quite the prankster even in his last days.
Clifford served as a World War II Veteran under General Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines and also in the Japan occupation forces.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, parents, Ora Lee and Winnie Baggs and one sister Juanita Dickinson.
Clifford leaves to cherish his sons, Richard Baggs and wife, Jo Ann of Pickens, Oklahoma and Gary Baggs and wife, Camille of Austin, Texas, daughter, Marilyn Tolbert and husband, Bill of Alaska, brothers, Pete Baggs, and wife, Judy of Valliant, Oklahoma and Tommy Baggs, and wife, Ann of Pickens, Oklahoma, sisters, Leota Rudisill of Oregon and Bobbie Capps of Hooks, Texas, grandchildren, Kristen Helvey, Cale Tolbert, Rich Baggs, Amanda Schwilch, Robert Baggs, Cassie Baggs and Grant Baggs, great-grandchildren, James Helvey, Luke Helvey, Garrett Baggs, Karlie Baggs, Madilynne Baggs, Amelia Schwilch and Cooper Schwilch and a host of nieces and nephews, special cousins and other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Battiest Cafetorium, Battiest, Oklahoma with J.M. Baggs officiating. Burial will follow at County Line Cemetery, Pickens, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Veterans Museum in Idabel, Oklahoma.
