Ruth Ann Jansen, 93, of Manitowoc, passed away September 23, 2016, at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation, Manitowoc.
She was born April 25, 1923 in Kossuth to Albert and Rosemary (Braun) Kortens. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc with the Class of 1940, and worked at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company following graduation. It was there that she met Gordon Jansen, and in July 1943 they were married in Manitowoc. In 1993, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Ruth began working at Holy Family Hospital in 1954, first as a nursing assistant, admissions clerk and as secretary for the School of Nursing. In 1970, she became administrative assistant to the hospital administrator until her retirement in 1985. Ruth and her husband, Gordon, were active golfers at the Elks Club for many years. Ruth also enjoyed bridge club, and was proud of her backyard garden.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Tom and Joan Jansen of Plymouth, Jon and Sarah Jansen of Valders, and Dave and Lori Jansen of Minneapolis; two grandchildren: Joshua and Jacob; one great-grandson, Caius; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gordon in 2008; three sisters, Elinor Wiesner, Gladys Van Alstine, and Grace Kortens; and two brothers, Edward and Paul.
Cremation has occurred at the All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and a memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, October 26, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry. Burial of Ruth's cremated remains will follow the Mass at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
