Buddy and his five siblings were born near Ronan, Montana. Their mother was an apparent stray cat who took up residence in a barn. She was killed by a car on a road in front of the farm. Not long after she died, the lady who owned the farm went into the barn to get some hay and discovered that her little feline boarder had left behind six tiny kittens. She took them into her home and hand-fed them. They weren't old enough to be weaned yet. Not long after that, I met her grandson at some training I went to in nearby Polson. I mentioned that my cat had just died and he told me that his grandmother had just rescued six orphaned kittens.

Getting directions to her place, I stopped by on my way home. I couldn't take them all, but chose Buddy and his brother, Mykee. I stopped at a store and got a box for them and put a blanket inside. I put it in the passenger seat. Mykee slept most of the time, but Buddy kept climbing out and cuddling around my neck. He tried to help drive. He was so friendly that I gave him the name "Buddy." I gave Mykee to my sister and she chose his name.

They were so cute and very close. If they were out of each other's sight, they'd start crying and looking for each other. Buddy was a good brother and was always taking care of Mykee.

Before they were two years old, Buddy went out one day and never returned. I still miss him a lot.
