Susan Farris was the daughter of Isaac and Susan (Thompson) Farris. She was born 7 January 1826 in Gallatin (now Carroll) County, Kentucky. On some records she has been shown as Susanna.
On 12 June 1849 the 23-year-old Susanna married the 25-year-old Thomas Lewis Easterday, son of Lewis and Lydia (Bledsoe) Easterday, Jr., in Carroll County. On the marriage record she listed her father as Isaac Farris. William S. Farris made an oath that she was over 21 years of age.
Thomas and Susan lived on a large acreage on Whites and Williams Run, near Carrollton, that they farmed.
They had 6 children:
- Lydia Jane (Easterday) Baker-Anderson - (1850-1924) aged 73
- Mary Elizabeth Easterday - (28 Dec 1851 - 14 Dec 1852) aged 11 months
- Margaret Francis (Easterday) O'Neal - (1855- 1874) age 19
- Nancy B (Easterday) Fothergill - (1857-1929) aged 72
- James W Easterday - (1859-1934) aged 74
- Lewis Abraham Easterday - (1861-1943) aged 82
Thomas died on 17 September 1864 in Carroll County, Kentucky at the age of 40 leaving Susan with 5 children, the youngest only 3 years old.
Three years after the death of Thomas, the 41-year-old Susan married Thomas' 30-year-old half brother, Galveston V. Montgomery. They were married on 11 December 1867 in Carroll County. Galveston was the son of Samuel C. and Lydia (Bledsoe-Easterday) Montgomery.
Susan and Galveston had one child:
- Elizabeth (Montgomery) Markland-Doke-Chandler - (1870-1941) aged 70
Susan died 18 November 1907, in Carroll County, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, 11 days old. Her marker is right next to her first husband, Thomas Easterday, and is very similar to his. They are buried on the west side of the cemetery. The name on her stone is Montgomery.
Her second husband, Galveston Montgomery, who died on 3 April 1918 in Easterday, Carroll County, is also buried in this cemetery, according to a transcription that was made of his marker many years ago. Although he was the last known burial in the cemetery, based on markers found, his marker has been recorded by others but has not been found to photograph. Gal is probably buried in the same row as Susan and Thomas. He most likely is on the other side of Susan or between his mother and half-brother, Thomas. His death certificate listed his burial in Montgomery cemetery but it is believed this is the correct cemetery.
