Mrs Barbara Rowe,Hess,Mumma died at her residence one-half mile north of this city, Wednesday morning
at 7o'clock of dropsey, aged 76 years 7 months and 25 days.
Mrs. Mumma was born in Harbaugh's Valley Pennsylvania May 1,1818 her maiden name was Rowe. at the age of ten she moved with her parents to Carrol County Maryland,where she spent the remainder of her maiden days. She was married at Uniontown in the above county to John Hess
in 1837. In 1860 she moved with her husband to Mongomery County Ohio,where they resided until 1870,
when they moved with eldest son Isaiah, who at the time was operating the old Weddle mill
(now the Copock Mill).After a lapse of three years Mr. and Mrs. Hess purchased the farm on which
the subject of this sketch died.Strange to relate Mr. Hess died of the same disease - dropsey Oct.13,
1876. She married Mr. Jacob Mumma in may 1881, who died in 1889.
To the first union eight children were born, four of which are still living.
Mrs. Mumma was a member of the dunkard church for over 60 years, and has always been a devout christian and active member of the church.
Funeral at the Sugar Grove Church friday morning at 11 o'clock, relatives will meet at the house
at 10 o'clock
