Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Karen HInckley Campbell passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2016, at the age of 83.

Born in 1933 in Logan, UT to Vernon and Zelda Hinckley of Preston, Idaho, she was the eldest daughter, and one of eight children in a large and loving family.

Her early years were spent on the family farm, and in school in Preston where she was the valedictorian of her high school class. She then graduated with honors from the University of Idaho in 1955, where she was the President of the Associated Women Students, a member of the Mortar Board, and received the Phi Chi Theta award for the outstanding woman student in the school of business.

Also in 1955, Karen married (and later was divorced from ) Robert S. Campbell, after which the couple moved from Idaho to Salt Lake City.

Karen lived a life of service and altruism. She was a career homemaker, raising three children, and was deeply passionate about community and church service. She was a member of the LDS church, served in several callings during her life, and enjoyed the kindness and generosity of her church community in her later years.

Karen loved to travel, most often to Martha's Vineyard, where she spent many wonderful times with family and friends at her summer home. Whether walking on Lambert's Cove beach collecting shells or just watching the sunset, the Vineyard was her retreat, where she was most herself.

She also loved cruises, visiting the Mediterranean and the Far East. She loved to cook and entertain, was a voracious reader, and a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast.

Family was important to Karen; she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. And she always attended the annual family reunion. Karen will be deeply missed by all.

She is survived by Courtney (Marie) Campbell of Corvallis, Oregon, Randall (Daska) Campbell of New Canaan, CT, and Kristin (Robert Samuelson) Campbell of Washington D.C. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and her two great grandsons. Karen also leaves behind seven loving siblings, four sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at the LDS Chapel at 4407 S. Fortuna Drive, Salt Lake City, UT on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in Preston, Idaho later that day in the Fairview Cemetery, at 2:30 p.m.
