James Alan Hoerstman, 43, of South Bend, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, in his home.

Jim was born November 24, 1972 in Mishawaka, the youngest child of Al and Joan (VanDriessche) Hoerstman. He grew up in Mishawaka and was a graduate of St. Bavo Grade School and Penn High School. Jim earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Jim was employed as an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Jim enjoyed camping and fishing and was a proud Notre Dame Alumni. He was an active volunteer at his daughter’s school and enjoyed her activities including soccer.

Jim’s surviving family includes his daughter, Ashlyn Hoerstman; his father, Al Hoerstman; six siblings, Ann Marie Doyle, Mark (Angie) Hoerstman, Mary Guyer, Rita (Matt) Weiss, Linda (Ted) Szaleweski and Karen (David) Zigon; two aunts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Joan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 25, at 11 am in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 502 W. Seventh Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Doug Smith, CSC, officiating. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Friends may spend time with Jim’s family on Monday, October 24, from 5 – 8 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Memorials are suggested to an Education Fund for Jim’s daughter, Ashlyn. Make checks to Ashlyn Hoerstman (put Education Fund on memo line). Please turn in checks to the funeral home.
