Swedish princess. After an amicable divorce from her first husband actor Ivan Craig, she eventually became Princess Lilian of Sweden, Duchess of Halland, through her marriage to Prince Bertil, Duke of Halland. She was a Welsh fashion model, cigarette girl and cabaret dancer who met the prince in London during WW2. She and Bertil lived together in France and Sweden for decades, but kept that secret from the public until the 1970s, aided by a cooperative press. They then complained on television about not being able to get married while young enough to have children. She was a paternal aunt of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, although not until after his grandfather's death, which enabled Prince Bertil to marry her in 1976. She had varied assignments as a princess, took over her late husband's leadership of the national motorist association and attended the Nobel Prize ceremonies almost till the end of her life. In Stockholm, she was known for her quick wit, for never learning any Swedish and for shopping without paying, which store clerks and cashiers around town took as a goes-without-saying pointer to bill her.
