OBITUARY

Departed this life, on Friday last, 3rd instant, at his residence in this county, after a short illness Ebenezer Gray, in the 39th year of his age.

In the death of Mr. Gray, society has lost one of its most worthy ornaments, and the Methodist Church one of its soundest pillars. We will attempt no eulogy upon the many virtues of the deceased. His character was one which the true Christian loved to contemplate. Humble and unassuming, yet fervent and sincere in his religious and social duties, he stood forth as a pleasing model for the followers of the Savior of mankind. The respect which his neighbors bore him while living was as sincere as their regret of hearing of his untimely death. But they mourn not as those without hope, for death had no terrors to him. He told his friends around him that his time had come – that he was ready to answer the summons, and charged them to meet him in Heaven. He shortly after expired without a murmur, and we doubt not his immortal part ascended to the realms of the blest. Long, long will the memory of Eben. Gray, be cherished by all who knew him.
