John Capardo, WWII veteran, was born on January 4, 1918 to parents Antonino and Elvira Cacopardo in Naples Italy and moved to the United States at the age of 3. John joined the army in 1941 and served as a Mess Sergeant until the end of the war in 1945. He married Frances Capardo in 1944 and had three children: Ronald, Denise and Rita. They lived in John's family home in Laurelton, Queens and he was a butcher owning his own store. In 1967 they moved into their own home in Shenorock, NY. John took pride in serving as an usher for St. John's church from 1967 until 2014, serving as a brother Knight for the Knights of Columbus and building the grotto alongside close friend Franz Wolf, and embracing a marriage of 69 years with Frances Capardo before her passing in October 2013. John will always be remembered for his jokes, his love of painting and lawn mowers, his impressive work ethic up through his late nineties and his beautiful and kind heart.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Wednesday, August 10 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 11 at 10 AM at St. John The Evangelist Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
