Captain Jakob Giessendanner:

Born January 25, 1727, Lichtensteig, Toggenburg, St Gallen, Switzerland and was the brother of the Reverend John Giessendanner.

Father: George Giessendanner, Sr, c. 09 Sep 1691, Lichtensteig, Toggenburg, St Gallen, Switzerland , d. Bef 01 May 1759, Orangeburg, SC.

Mother: Susannah Barbara Giezendanner - Giessendanner, b. 22 Jan 1700, Emelsberg, ob Cappel, Switzerland

He served in the militia during several Cherokee uprisings, and was taken ill on 8 Aug 1759 and died on August 16, 1759 at the end of the war. Captain Jakob is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery at Orangeburg and is listed on the historical marker there.

On Thursday Morning August 16th died after Eight Days Illness and the Day after was interred in the Church yard of Orangeburgh the Body of Capt. Jacob Giessendanner, aged Thirty Two years, Six Months, Three Weeks.
