THOMAS H. ODEKIRK CALLED BY DEATH AFTER LONG ILLNESS
On Thursday evening at 8:20 PM after a long siege of Typhoid Fever the spirit of Thomas H Odekirk passed to its maker. An aged father and mother, three brothers and sisters, wife and baby were left to mourn the loss of his departure. Mr. Odekirk was born in Garden City, Rich County, Utah April 29, 1879 and came to Vernal with his parents 37 years ago, July 23, where he has since resided. He early in life became identified with stock raising interests. At the time of his death he was interested with Enos Bennion in the sheep business. His parents Heber and Hanna C. Odekirk, brothers and sisters: Isaac of Myton; Mrs. Elizabeth Ashton of Vernal; Mrs. Mary Julious of Grand Junction, Colorado; Miss. Flora Odekirk of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Sarah Norgard of Clear Creek, Utah; Frank of Roosevelt; Mrs. Fern Osborne of Helper; Mrs. Austin Odekirk-Stringham of Vernal and Leroy of Vernal were all at the funeral.
Three years ago this coming October he was married to Miss. Afton Collett. One son, Thomas K. was born to them.
Bishop George E. Wilkins presided at the funeral services, which were held Saturday at the Vernal Second Ward Chapel. There was a large crowd present to pay their last respects to the departed. Many beautiful flowers were given by his many friends.
A. A. Haws offered the opening prayer and President Ernest Eaton pronounced the benediction. The speakers were N.G. Sowards. Wilbur Sowards and Bishop Wilkins. Splendid singing was given by the Second ward Choir who sang, "Though Deepening Trials," "Rock of Ages," "Sometime, somewhere" and "I Need Thee Every Hour." Miss Mina Davis sang "The End Of a Perfect Day," Interment was made in the Vernal Cemetery with Bishop Wilkins dedicating the grave.
