DALHART - Vic Welch Haney, 94, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in Dallas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lakeview United Methodist Church with Brad Crosswhite officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home.

Mrs. Haney passed away Dec. 29, 2006, in Dallas. She was born on a homestead near Obar, N.M., on Oct. 6, 1912, the year New Mexico became a state. Her parents, Thomas Adam Welch and May Matthews Welch, were among the early settlers in the area. Vic married Stroud Herbert Haney in Portales, N.M., on Sept. 11, 1930. Vic's family came from Missouri and Texas, and Stroud's family came from Pennsylvania. To this union three children were born, Dorothy, Marion, and Herbert.

Vic lived all of her 94 years in Dalhart and the surrounding area, establishing a home on Oak Street while Stroud worked for the Rock Island Railroad. In 2006, she moved to Richardson to be near a granddaughter.

Vic was a lifelong homemaker and mother, who accumulated an uncountable number of friends. She was an expert seamstress and designer who enjoyed sewing for her family and professionally. She enjoyed making quilt tops and quilting and helped to start the Quilter's Group at the Dalhart Senior Citizens Center, where she spent many wonderful hours quilting.

For more than 60 years, from FDR to Clinton, Vic took pride in having worked at the polls in every election. She belonged to many organizations through the years. She was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Homebuilder's Class. She was also a member of the Rhem Home Demonstration Club, Reader's Guild, Rock Island Fireman and Engineers Ladies Auxiliary and was a Room Mother and Girl Scouts Leader.

Vic Haney was the loveliest person you could ever know. She will be missed by many friends and loved ones. She influenced many people by the way she lived her life. Both young and old have been touched by Vic's kind and caring heart through the years. When she saw a need, she did what she could to help those less fortunate, even until her passing.

On July 14, 1979, Vic lost her dearly beloved Stroud. Others who preceded her in death are: her grandmother, Sara Jane Matthews of Dalhart; her parents; a granddaughter, Kelly Haney; a son-in-law, John Scott Martin; two sisters, Lake Fitzner and Esta Fitzner; and four brothers, Verner Welch, Emmitt Welch, Glenn Welch and Paul Morrison.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Martin Oliver and John Oliver and Marion Simpson Crosswhite and John Crosswhite; a son, Herbert Haney; a sister, Doris Farley; a brother-in-law, Julius Fitzner; and eight grandchildren, Sharen Burden, Karen Luyties, Rob Martin, Kent Crosswhite, Brad Crosswhite, Mark Simpson, Candace Boyd and Tom Haney. Vic also leaves behind 18 beloved great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind friend and caregiver, Bill Lowry.

The family suggests memorials be to Dalhart Senior Citizens Center.
