John L. Rogne was born in Sogn, Norway, on October 17, 1865. His parents were Lars Erickson Raunehaug and Sigrid Jonsdatter Opheim. He was the second son of a family of seven sons.

At the age of 21 he came to America and settled in the Elkton community where he made his home on a farm two miles southwest of town for fifty years. In 1942, the Rognes moved to Adams where they continued to make their home until 1947, when Mrs. Rogne passed away on July 15. From that time until his death he made his home with his children and has lived at the Malone Rest Home in Stewartville these later years.

Mr. Rogne passed away on Wednesday, September 12th at Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 25 days. Mr. Rogne was baptized and confirmed in the State Church of Norway - The Lutheran Church, but since his coming to this community he has been a member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church.

On September 15, 1890, he was united in marriage to Mary Tiegen. To this union eight children were born, six of which survive. His wife Mary and two children, Edwin and Amanda, Mrs. Henry Tysseling, preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Celia, Mrs. Henry Quast of Rose Creek, Minnesota; and Mabel, Mrs. Kenneth Pemberton of Des Moines, Iowa; and four sons, Lewis and Sigurd Rogne of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Dr. William Rogne of Spring Grove, Minnesota; and Harlan Rogne of Elkton, Minn. There are twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Hans, in Norway.

For the last several years, Mr. Rogne has been in declining health but has always found great joy in being with his children and their families.

Funeral services were held from the Adams Funeral Home and the Little Cedar Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 15th, with Rev. B.E. Petrick, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Elkton, officiating in the absence of Pastor M.L. Witte. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Gerald Hanson of Elkton, and Mr. H.E. Lunde of Adams, with Mrs. M.L. Witte at the organ. Burial was in the family lot of the Little Cedar Cemetery. Ladies of the Mission Circle One of the Little Cedar Ladies' Aid served lunch to relatives, friends and neighbors in the church parlors following the service. Blessed be the memory of this pioneer.
