A native of Harwich Port, Mass., he was a son of Adelbert Franklin and Mrs. Seraphina Mayo Doane and the husband of Mrs. Myra Tatem Doane.
He was a retired foreman of Colonna Shipyard.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Holland and Mrs. Myra Bardon of Chesapeake; five sons, Robert M. Doane of Virginia Beach, Leon M. Doane Jr. of Waldorf, Md., John A. Doane of Park Forest, Ill., William R. Doane of Chesapeake, and Luther Doane of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home by the Rev. Willis Joiner. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park.
