According to the book "Memoir of Rev. Samuel Whiting," Joseph Whiting was born 6 Apr 1641. He was ordained a teacher of the church in Lynn on 6 Oct 1680 and was later invited to become the minister in Southampton, NY, where he stayed until his death.

Joseph had two wives, the first being Sarah Danforth, eldest daughter of Hon. Thomas Danforth, Deputy Governor of MA. She was born 11 Nov 1646. Joseph had six children with Sarah. All except the first (Samuel) and 6th (Benjamin) died within a few weeks of birth.

Joseph Whiting's second wife was Rebecca Bishop, daughter of Rev. John Bishop of Stamford, CT. She was born 26 Feb 1663. Joseph and Rebecca had eight children, including Samuel, born in 1689 and Joseph, born in 1692 in Southampton, NY.

Rev. Joseph Whiting died at age 82.
His stone reads:

"Here lies the Reverent Mr. Joseph Whiting Who Died April the 7 ye 1723 in ye 82 Year of his age"
