Statesman, 63rd Prime Minister of Iran. He served from 19 August 1953 to 7 April 1955. Prior to becoming prime minister he served in the military reaching the rank of brigadier general. In 1926 he was named military governor of the Khuzestan province, his first important government position, and in 1932 chief of national police, one of the nation's top posts. At the beginning of World War II he was made commanding general of the Isfahan Division. He was detained by the British in 1941 as a suspected revolutionary and sent to Palestine. He returned in 1945 to be named Inspector of military forces in southern Iran. He became once more chief of national police. After retiring from the army he was made a senator and minister of interior serving from 28 April 1951 to 5 August 1951. He served as minister of foreign affairs from 7 April 1953 – 29 April 1953. After a coup d'état in 1953 he became prime minister. After leaving the post, he became Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.
