Edmund “Eddie” Ternes, 89, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home following a brief illness.

Edmund was born June 29, 1927 at Strasberg, ND to Romanus and Celestina (Wagner) Ternes.

During World War II, he served his nation in the U.S. Army.

On October 25, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lois Parr at Blairstown.

“Eddie” was a Benton County farmer and business owner. He retired as a supervisor from Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids.

In his leisure, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, coin collecting, and gardening. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and spending time with his family.

“Eddie” is survived by his wife, Lois, of Newhall; his children, Connie Novak of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Connie) Ternes of Atkins, Ben (Cindy) Ternes of Swisher, Tom (Claudia) Ternes of Mt Vernon and Diana (Dave) Geudtner of Lake Zurich, IL; his grandchildren, Christoph (Kim) Novak of Chicago, Alison (Aaron Yowell) Novak of Brooklyn, NY, Amanda (Mark) Miller of Sterling Heights, MI, Jaime (Cory) Townsend of Mt Vernon, Jen Ternes of Atkins, Tanya (Brady) VanVoorst of Cedar Rapids, Matt (Samantha) Ternes of Greer, SC, Jodie (Brandon) Yuska of Cedar Rapids, Thaddeus (Jenae) Ternes of Austin, TX, Anna (Joshua) Rundle of Marion, Andrew (Shantel) Ternes of Indianola, Elizabeth Geudtner and Nicholas Geudtner of Lake Zurich, IL; his great grandchildren, Keira and Kohner Novak, Mavis Yowell, Cole and Camden Townsend, Aiden Albertsen and Sydney Brant, Ava and Adalyn VanVoorst, Jaxton, Maddex, Xavier and Lincoln Ternes, Katelyn, Hayden and Nolan Yuska, Micaiah, Gideon and Boaz Ternes, Renae, Jack and Adelaide Rundle, Jameson and Xavier Ternes; his sister, Anastasia “Tess” Krumm of Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and four sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Newhall with Father Craig Steimel as Celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Patrick & St. Paul Cemetery near Watkins. Military Rites will be conducted by John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post 167 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday.

A memorial fund has been established.
