He was born June 7, 1896, in Buctouche, N.B. , Canada, son of Fidele and Marguerite (Daigle) Poirier.
He was the widower of Marguerite Leblanc who died June, 1975.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Doris Camden and Lucina Poirier of Gardner and Viola Stropparo of Fitchburg; 1 brother, Philip Poirier of Gardner; 5 sisters, Eveline Desroches, Lea Pellerin or Moncton, N.B., Canada, Azelie Savoie or Belmont and Roseanna Cormier and Dorina Dwyer or Gardner; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Poirier who lived in Gardner for 58 years, was a member of Holy Rosary Church, the Acadien Social Club, the Gardner Fish and Gun Club, and the Gardner Golden Age Club.
He retired from the former Florence Stone Co. 15 years ago.
The funeral will be Wednesday, from the Dufault funeral home with a mass of resurrection at 11 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church.
Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral of Simon J. Poirier, 82, of 182 Pine Street was held this morning from the Dufault Funeral Home with a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 at the Holy Rosary Church. The celebrant was the Rev. Gerard Jaillet, assistant pastor. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery. The committal prayer was given by Rev. Jaillet.
Beareres were Gordon Poirier, Emile Poirier and Walter Poirier, grandsons, of Gardner; Ronald Dellessanta of Winchendon, Andre Savoie and Jean Paul Tetreault, Honorary bearers were members of the Acadien Social Club, Henry Leblanc, John Melanson, Fred Collette and Donat Cormier.
