TUSCUMBIA — Lila Smith Aldridge, age 84, of Tuscumbia, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016. Her family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, 10-11:30 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Barrett Long officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. “Buddy” Aldridge, former Colbert County Sheriff.

She is survived by her sons, Steve Aldridge and wife, Jamie, Drew Aldridge and wife, LeAnn, Stuart Aldridge and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Lindsey Aldridge Key (Ben), Robin Aldridge, Hunter Aldridge, Katelyn Aldridge; and, half-brother, Doug Cooner and wife, Vicky.

Our mother was raised in Colbert Heights. Her parents were James Andrew and Frances Wallace Smith. She worked at the family store delivering groceries and pumping gas where she was affectionately known as ‘Pet’.

While attending Deshler, she met the love of her life, John “Buddy” Aldridge. They married in Iuka in 1948. After traveling with Buddy while he was in the military, they eventually settled in Tuscumbia where she was the calming voice of reason in a house with three sons. She served as the Executive Secretary at Riverbend Mental Health Center for over 25 years. Her love and devotion to Buddy led her to campaign tirelessly for each of his city and county elections. She and Buddy loved to travel all over the United States to Sheriff Conventions, where they made many life-long friends, but her favorite role was being “Mamama” and “Grandmother” to her four grandchildren. She enjoyed teaching the grandchildren piano and attending endless sporting events and dance recitals. She set a great example for her grandchildren with her daily Bible studies.

Without fail, there was always freshly baked cake and roast beef available for Sunday dinner. Her specialty was Mississippi Mud Brownies that were loved by all. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia, and the love of Christ was evident in all that she did.

Pallbearers are Mike Campbell, Ben Key, Barry Lyle, Joe Lyle, Earl Dean Thomason, Charles Wallace, Don Wallace, and Kirk Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers are David Callahan, Bill Countiss, and Kenneth Crump.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank so many for your acts of kindness, thoughts, and prayers. They also extend their special thanks to Mitchell-Hollingsworth and Amedisys Hospice Care.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia.
