Born in Lancaster he was a son of the late Walter F., Sr., and Mary (Buckwalter) Somerfield. Ray graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Education and was a school teacher until his retirement. He served in the US Army and wanted to be remembered as a young man who loved the language, classical music, and the stars.
He is survived by a brother Walter F. Somerfield, Jr., and two sisters Jean Zimmerman and Leah Welk all of Lancaster. Ray was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and William, and three sisters Mary Staffieri, Elizabeth Byrd, and Ann Leakway.
In keeping with Ray's wishes services will be held at the convenience of his family.
