JOHNNIE LAVON FORTNER Johnnie Lavon Fortner, age 91, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Johnnie was born March 19, 1925 to the late William Bryan and Birdie Hazel (Patton) Richardson and was raised in the areas of Eros and Pyatt, Arkansas. During World War II she went to Kansas City to work in the aerospace industry. After the war, she returned home to Arkansas and met her one and only love, Deloss Fortner. They were married in Marshall, Arkansas on Feb. 16, 1946. In about 1950, Johnnie and Deloss packed up their two children, Jack and Linda, and traveled to California to work in the fruit harvest. Deloss was offered a job with Southern Pacific Railroad. A short trip turned into a lifetime. As Deloss worked up the railroad ladder, the Fortner family moved from Maryville, California to Lovelock, Nevada, to Alturas, California, to Medford, Oregon, and finally retiring in Chico, California. Johnnie was a stay-at-home mom, only working outside the home once for a short time in a school cafeteria. Johnnie and Deloss raised their children in church and were good, hardworking people who loved each other. When her husband had a stroke and was wheelchair-bound, she lovingly cared for him at home for over 20 years. She moved back to Marion County in 2012. She was a faithful worshipper and a member of Faith Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Yellville. Johnnie is survived by her son Jack Fortner and his wife, Pam, of Yellville, Arkansas; three grandchildren: Jennifer Ferraiuolo, Justin Fortner, and Alison Sadler; and five great-grandchildren: Jocelyn Fortner, Samantha Fortner, Hunter Fortner, Olivia Ferraiuolo, and Elena Ferraiuolo. Mrs. Fortner was preceded in death by her husband, Deloss Franklin Fortner in 2006; her daughter, Linda Gibson; three brothers; and five sisters. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Friday, December 2, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Yellville with Bro. Rick Pyron officiating. Arrangements are by Roller-Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas.
