HENRY CAMP

Henry Camp, aged 76, one of the best known and respected residents of this community died at 3:50 o'clock this morning at his late home in Smiths Ferry, Pa., following a long illness due to his advanced age.

He was born and raised in Beaver and had been an Odd Fellow for 54 years, having joined the order in Omaha City, Neb. He had been a member of the Masonic Order of Smith's Ferry since the founding of that body.

He is survived by one son, Charles Camp, and four daughters, Mrs. Willis Chamberlain of East End; Mrs. John Thompson, of Hookstown; Mrs. Lavina Mahan of Smith's Ferry, and Myrtilla Mahan of Smith’s Ferry, and sisters, Mrs. Margaret Dawson of Rochester, Pa., and Mrs. Barbara Robertson of California, and one brother, Michael Camp, of Chicago, also survive.

Mr. Camp was a devout member and an elder of the Glasgow Presbyterian church for many years. The funeral services are to be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be made in Georgetown Cemetery.

Henry Camp was the son of Johan Georg Michael Kempf & Anna Barbara Schlessman, Immigrants from Germany who arrived in 1831 aboard the William Penn. He married Helen Rae Gilchrist, daughter of Owen Gilchrist & Eleanor Rae Burke, on February 11, 1861, at St. Mary's in Jackson County, Missouri. They had the following children: John Michael Jr., died young; James P., died at age 21; Anna M., married Samuel Torrence, then Willis Chamberlain; Ella R., married John R Thompson; Bessie, married Fred Foss of Quindaro, Kansas, died of cancer leaving 2 young daughters; Charles Owen, married Anna Thornby; Myrtilla W Camp; Lavenia, married Joseph Boston Mahon, then Howard Colledge.
His obituary incorrectly lists his surviving brother as Michael. His surviving brother was actually Martin, from Chicago.
