Son of John & Isabella Kane. Brother of Isabella, Eliza, Annie Jane & Esther. Born in Dunman (near Cookstown), County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Like his father, John Kane, before him, his was a shoemaker by trade. He also served as a Civil Bill Server. According to oral history, his family also ran a hack (horse & carriage) service.
Oral history has him and most of the family immigrating to the U.S. around Oct 1886, to be with family (possibly his daughter Annie). It is said he greatly missed Ireland and his life there.
He died of consumption less than four years after his arrival.
