Leeroy Purcell, 84, died Friday, December 9, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family and under the care of Bethany Hospice. He was born in Glennville on September 8, 1932 to Enoch W. and Minnie Lee Barnard Purcell and lived here all of his life. He was a 1950 graduate of Glennville High School , a 1958 graduate of Brewton Parker College and a 1962 graduate of Georgia Southern University. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and retired from the Georgia National Guard. He was employed with the Tattnall County Board of Education retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Glennville VFW post # 8379 and member of the Retired Teacher’s Association and an official referee for many years. He loved to fish and hunt and be with his family. He was a member of the Glennville First Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Vianna Purcell; parents; brother, Eugene and James Purcell; and a grandson, Justin Keith McCloud.
Survivors include:
Wife: Mary Dixon Purcell of Glennville
Children: Glen and Sonya Purcell and
Gloria and Danny Dubberly, all of Glennville
Grandchildren: Brandon Purcell, Reed Purcell, Sydney Purcell , Casey Dubberly Giddens (Eric), Bruce Daniel Dubberly IV.
Great-grandchildren: Ava Giddens , Quinn Giddens and Grant Giddens
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers: Brandon Purcell, Reed Purcell, Eric Giddens, Bruce Daniel Dubberly IV, Lee Garner, Charles Walker, Kevin Garner, Steve Dixon, Ray Dixon and Milton Carter.
