He was born Oct. 19, 1941, in Rock Island, a son of Matthew and Odelia Johannes Meckes.
Tom was involved with music most of his life, including Notre Dame high school marching band, Quincy College dance band, local drum and bugle corps and several choirs. He also served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, where he was a member of the Air Force band.
Tom is survived by one brother, Mike Meckes and his wife, Alice, of Kansas City, Mo.; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother.
