Buzz lived in the house where he was born until he and Myrtie moved to Lubbock in 1992. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1936 and farmed in Petersburg until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg where he was the music director for many years. He also sang for church revival services in his area, along with his wife, Myrtie, and his daughter, Jerri.
He was a member of Petersburg Masonic Lodge, Lion's Club and was a member of the Petersburg School Board. He also helped organize the Opportunity Plan for Students in Petersburg.
