Robert Lynn Martin, Jr., 64, died at 2:45 PM Saturday [March 17, 1984] in his Lafayette home, following a six-month illness. Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Boone County, he came to Lafayette from Lebanon in 1950. His marriage was April 3, 1948, at Dalton, PA, to Vera "Jackie" Hanes, who survives.
Mr. Martin served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Admiral Byrd's Expedition to the South Pole in 1946 and 1947. He had been employed at National Homes for 34 years and worked in the paint department. He was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of American Legion Post 11 and Carpenters Industrial Council of Indiana, Local 2601.
Surviving with his widow are a son, Lee R. Martin of Lafayette; his mother, Mrs. Jessie F. Martin of Lebanon; four brothers, Rupert Martin of Kirklin, Marion Martin of Lombard, IL, Dale Martin and Carol Martin, both of Lebanon; four sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Harry) Sink of Lebanon, Mrs. Mary Jean Brennan of Indianapolis, Maxine (Mrs. Richard) Teegurden of Frankfort, and Nita Fern (Mrs. Max) Mundell of Oakford, IN; and one grandson.
