Robert Ayers

Brown County native Robert E. Ayers died Sunday evening, December 26, 1999, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Bartholomew County, he was 67.

Mr. Ayers was born December 29, 1931, in Brown County to Garland Ayers and Tressa Hamblen Ayers.

He had worked as a tool and die setter at Arvins Industries at Columbus, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Ayers was a member of Elizabethtown United Methodist Church.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Wilson and Laura Sutton, both of Freetown; a step-daughter, Katrina Gravett of Columbus; three sons, Robert L. Ayers of Nashville, Jeffrey S. Ayers of Seymour and Roger D. Ayers of Columbus; seven sisters, Maxine Melton of Franklin, Ruth Good of Indianapolis, Janet Falte of Florida, Helen Gregg of North Carolina, Linda Purdy of Arizona, Edna Thomas of Fishers and Betty Shaw of Flat Rock; two brothers, Mike Ayers of Greenwood and John Thomas Ayers of Franklin; and eight grandchildren.

The Reverend Larry Macintosh will conduct a service Thursday, December 29, at 1 p.m. in the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.

Burial was in Van Buren Township's Mt. Zion Cemetery.
