Professional Football Player. For ten seasons (1965 to 1974), he played at the defensive end position in the American and National Football Leagues with the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. Born Verlon Marion Biggs, he attended Moss Point High School in Mississippi. He played collegiate football at Jackson State University and earned All-American honors twice (1963 and 1964). Selected by the New York Jets during the 3rd round of the 1965 AFL Draft, he totaled 135 career regular season AFL and NFL game. Briggs experienced a world championship with the 1968 New York Jets' team who captured title in Super Bowl III, played in January 1969. Individually, he earned all star status three-times (1966 to 1968). He was a member of the Washington Redskins who won the NFC Title in 1972. He died from leukemia.
