Mrs. Jessie Call Perkins Dies;
Former Paisley Postmistress
DELAND -- Mrs. Jessie Call Perkins, 89, member of a pioneer Lake County family and aunt of Walt Disney, died Tuesday at Fish Memorial Hospital. She was a descendant of Richard Keith Call, third territorial governor of Florida.
Mrs. Perkins moved here 10 years ago after retiring as postmaster at Paisley, eastern Lake County. She had held the job for 10 years after the death of her husband, Albert S. Perkins, who was Paisley's postmaster for 33 years.
Mrs. Perkins was principal of Eustis High School from 1903 to 1909. She was an active member of Paisley Methodist Church for 50 years and of DeLand Trinity Methodist Church since moving here.
She was born in Greenfield, Ohio and moved to Florida from Kansas with her family in 1888. Before that she taught school in Norwalk, Ohio.
Mrs. Perkins was secretary-treasurer of the Ponceannah Cemetery Assn. 26 years. She will be buried there in the family plot Thursday after services in the chapel of Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, DeLand. The Rev. Robert M. Blackburn, Trinity Methodist Church pastor, will officiate at the 10 a.m. services.
Mrs. Perkins is survived by 20 nieces and nephews including Disney, who is in Europe and will be unable to attend the funeral, and Mrs. Guy Meyerink and Miss Irene Campbell, DeLand.
