Thomas Goosby, 87, one of the city's oldest and best-known colored citizens, died Sunday at his home, 197 Auburn Avenue. Born October 10, 1840 in Oglethorpe county, he came to Atlanta while a young man. For more than 60 years Goosby lived here, where his industrious and cheerful disposition won a high place in the confidence and respect of both races.
In addition to his widow, Goosby is survived by a son, W. H. Goosby, of Chicago, and a [step-]daughter, Annie Massey, a talented soloist and city school teacher.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday from the Liberty Baptist church, the hour to be announced later.
