Madelyne "Mattie" (Smith) (Joyce) Hancock was born on January 15, 1883 in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of William A "W A" Smith (1857-1934) and Mary Rose (Ringpfiel) Smith (1858-1938), who were married about 1879.
Mattie was married 1st on November 23, 1903 to Samuel Martin "S M" Joyce, and she was married 2nd on April 4, 1933 in Davidson County as the 2nd wife of John Henry Hancock (ca 1877-1938).
A member of Vine Street Christian Church and living at 817 North 5th Street in Nashville, Mattie was 53 years old and married when she died at home of rectal cancer on August 13, 1936.
Survivors included her 2nd husband, sons R H Joyce and W A Joyce of Nashville, daughter Margaret Clark of Birmingham AL, mother Mrs Mary R Smith of Nashville TN, sisters Mrs Frank Smith of Clarksville and Mrs J C Valines of Nashville Tn and two granddaughters.
Funeral Services were held at Marshall Funeral Home, and burial was on August 15th in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
