Louis was the son of August Wilt and Mary Gephart. He was a veteran of World War I. About 1921 he married his first wife, Amelia. By 1940 he was married to his second wife, Margaret. Louis was a retired foreman for Ballard & Ballard, Inc., a Louisville-based flour milling company. Louis died at Kentucky Baptist Hospital of head injuries incurred after being struck by a truck while crossing Mellwood Avenue. He was 76 years old.
