Funeral services for Cheney Warren Alger, 82, of Baldwinville Road, Phillipston, Winchendon native and former resident who died at his home Saturday afternoon after a long illness, were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist Chapel at the four corners in Phillipston. Rev. Wallace E. Hayes of Winchendon officiated. Bearers were Fritz Eklund, Douglas Batchelder and Homer Blais of Phillipston, Raymond Sharron and Edwin Andrews of Gardner, and Otis Hager of Athol. There was a wealth of floral bouquets and a large delegation of friends and relatives attended the services. Burial was in Lower Cemetery in Phillipston, under the direction of the Snow Funeral Home in Winchendon.
Mr. Alger was born in Winchendon and resided in Winchendon for many years. Before his retirement about 30 years ago, he was employed as a pail turner in Winchendon. He and his former wife Lillian Ward, who survives him, celebrated their golden anniversary two years ago. He also leaves a son, Freeman Alger of Phillipston; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Albert of Keene and Lawrence of South Royalston; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Bump of Winchendon and Miss Hattie Alger of Milford, NH.
