Marine LCPL Lonnie Ellerbe Jr, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Hamlet, NC.

US Marine Lance Corporal Lonnie Ellerbe Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Ellerbe served our country until August 13th, 1968 in Thua Thien, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. Lonnie died when his weapon malfunctioned. His body was recovered. LCPL Ellerbe is on panel 48W, line 005 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

Your classmate, Alvin. Sorry I was not there for your home service because I was getting ready to be shipped out to Vietnam. Our class will be having our 40 year class reunion this year. You'll be missed from all of us. Sp4 Alvin Washington, 18 Avenue V, Apt 6C, Brooklyn NY, 11223.

He was the son of Mr Lonnie Ellerbe Sr, General Delivery, Hamlet, NC.

He served with the 3rd Combined Action Group, Combined Action Regiment, 3rd Marine Amphibious Forces.

He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
