"A prominent and well known resident of Bramanville, Thomas Chickering, died at his home, Friday, May 8th, of a complication of diseases. Mr. Chickering was born at Charlotteville, February 15, 1859, the son of John Chickering and Jemima (Lamont) Chickering, who had a family of nine children, five sons and four daughters. The family moved to Summit when Thomas was a boy of ten years of age. Later he went to Bramanville to work for his uncle, Shafer Swart. He married Laura Carey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Carey. He moved back to Summit and lived a while and thence to Lawyersville, where he managed the general store at that place. On the death of his father-in-law, Mr. Carey, he moved to Bramanville and assumed management of the grist mill there, which business he followed till the time of his death. Mr. Chickering is survived by his widow, one brother, Finley Chickering of Bramanville, and four sisters, Mrs. Alice Beard, Mrs. Jennie Stronigan, Mrs. Maria McDonald and Miss Elizabeth Chickering, all of Cobleskill, and by nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Cobleskill and of the Order of Eastern Star. He represented the town of Cobleskill in the Board of Supervisors. Mr. Chickering was [a] genial and pleasant fellow and had many friends who esteemed him very highly. Funeral services were held at his late home at 10:30 o'clock, Monday, Sept. 11th, Rev. John Bulnes, officiating. The body was taken to Troy for cremation. His ashes will be deposited in the Bramanville cemetery, with commital service by the Masonic Order on Thursday of this week."
