Carol Houston Makant, 79, passed away February 7, 2017. A memorial service was held at Mount Paran Christian School in the Murray Arts Center, 1275 Stanley Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30152 with Dr. David Mayo officiating.

Carol Makant was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1937. She graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Georgia in 1955, and spent the majority of her adult life in Marietta, Georgia. She was the youngest daughter of three children and grew up in a wonderful, God-loving family. Her father Walter Ray Houston and her mother Clara Ruth Alexander Houston were pillars of their church and their community and through their love for their daughter imbued in Carol her strong Christian faith, her love of family, and her charismatic social nature.

The family and friends are celebrating Carol and a beautiful life well-lived. She shined in so many ways. She had so many friends in all seasons of her life – her high school social life, her child-rearing days, her days of caring for numerous babies and young children, her bowling life, bridge playing life, tennis life, dancing life, billiards life - the list continues on. Carol was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. On whatever plain of life her friends and family met her, her bright and loving nature shined.

Carol shined with her two siblings and countless friends. She loved to laugh and to entertain. She attracted friends effortlessly and endlessly. She knew how to host and keep the party alive with her never-ending stories and jokes. Where she entertained, there was music and laughter.

She shined in the presence of children. Her children came first. She was a selfless, wonderful mother. She loved to sing, and would sing “You are My Sunshine” to little children. All babies and small children were instantly attracted to her, and she knew just how to care for each one.

Carol shined in her well-manicured garden.

She shined when she danced - Waltz, Quickstep, Samba, Foxtrot, Charleston, Cha Cha. Everyone loved to watch her dance and to dance with her.

She was firm in her beliefs, but considerate and caring in her dealings with others, and took great care to teach her children to be responsible, dedicated, honest, and faithful.

She is shining now as she dances her way through Heaven, meeting Jesus, and receiving His loving greeting, “well done my good and faithful servant.”

She was the life of the party. She loved to dance, loved to laugh, loved to sing, and loved her family and friends.

Carol was loved by all who knew her. She was our sunshine, and she wants all of us to shine in memory of her.

She is survived by her son K.L. "Todd" Makant III (Valerie) of Powder Springs; her daughter Karen Makant Puett (Dennis) of Marietta; her son Russell Alexander Makant (Mindy) of Hildebran, North Carolina; her daughter Kelly Makant Barton (Todd) of Kennesaw; her brother Warner Houston (Wisteria) of Savannah; her sister Beverley Curelop of Tomball, Texas; and her former husband Kenneth L. Makant, Jr. of Acworth; as well as nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews..Flowers given in memory to Ms. Makant are appreciated. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home - Macland Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
