James Conti, 83, of Cooksburg, Cook Forest, formerly of Plum, died Monday (Sept. 29, 2003) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Herminie, and lived in Plum for many years before moving to Cook Forest 21 years ago.
A World War II veteran, he was an Army Air Force radar specialist and served in the Pacific.
From 1949 to his retirement in 1981, he was self-employed in the bar and restaurant supplies business.
Mr. Conti was a member of and past master of the Plum Masonic Lodge, the New Kensington Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles, and was one of the founders of the Cook Forest Kiddies Fishing Program, the Logans Ferry Sportsman's Club and the Canadian-American Fishing Club, both in Plum.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Violet L. Christian Conti; three sons, David (Eileen) Ward of Fort Worth, Texas, John (Janet) Ward of North Huntingdon, and James (Karen) Conti of Plum; a daughter, Mrs. Sherry (Richard) Kudranski of Plum; four grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Conti of California and John Conti of Plum; and two sisters, Julia Gais of Hershey and Jennie Gais of Avonmore.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; his parents, Bernard and Lucille Salamone Conti; and a sister, Margaret Novak.
Friends are being received from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the STEPHEN P. DOLENCE JR. FUNERAL HOME, 1519 Renton Road in Plum, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank DeLuce, pastor of Unity United Presbyterian Church, Plum. Burial will be in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum. A Masonic service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at a time to be announced.
