Laura (Tootie) Alice Svoboda, 98, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at her residence in the Avalon Nursing Home of Newnan, Georgia after a long illness. Born on October 7, 1917 in Baldwinsville, MA to parents, Edmond and Edna Currier. On December 16, 1938, she married Charles Svoboda. They resided in Ballston Spa, N. Y. She lived in Ballston Spa most all of her life, moving in with her daughter and son-in-law in 1988. She resided at the Saratoga County Infirmary for 2 years before moving to Georgia in 2011 when her daughter moved there.

Laura worked a number of years at the Van Raalte Mill in Saratoga Springs, N. Y. she was later employed by the County in the Malta Avenue School kitchen and then at the Saratoga County Infirmary as a housekeeper until she retired. Her smile, bigheartedness, and zest for life will always be remembered by many. She loved to be on the go, driving friends down to Florida in her 80's, eating out, and traveling wherever she could. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Svoboda in 1984; and 2 brothers, Henry and Albert Currier. Survivors include her son, Charles A. Svoboda and wife, Michele Marotta of Ooltewah, TN; daughter Sandra (Svoboda) Girard and husband, Larry Girard of Newnan, GA; granddaughters, Sherry Svoboda of Ballston Spa, NY; Amy (Svoboda) Lamoureaux and husband, Ron of Schenectady, NY; Jennifer (Girard) Campney and husband Benjamin of Summerville, SC; 2 gr. granddaughters, Mia and Meara Campney; brother, Edmond Currier of Ballston Spa, NY; and a number of nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her life will be held in Ballston Spa at the Factory Village Cemetery in the spring. Thank you, Mom.., for the love, strength, and care, for this in this world that is quite rare.
