Born July 22, 1946, in Martinsville, he was the son of the late Roy Victor and Juanita R. "Dude" (Brummett) Owens.
He married Mary Margaret (Johnson) Owens April 25, 1975. She survives in Martinsville.
He retired in 2004 after more than 30 years at Allison's Transmission in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1257 and the American Legion Post 230, both of Martinsville.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a SR E-1 from Oct. 25, 1963 to Feb. 18, 1964.
He enjoyed music, woodworking, gardening,his animals, playing golf and his grandchildren.
Other survivors include four sons, Ronald Owens Jr. of Paragon, Rodney Owens of Eminence, Chad Owens of Martinsville and Scott Kennedy of Florida; three daughters, Sheryl Wade of Martinsville, Lori Cutter of Florida and Ronica Whitaker of Ohio; two brothers, Roy "Jay" Owens of Greenwood and Max Owens Sr. of Martinsville; a sister, Delphine "Dee" Godsey of Martinsville; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Sparky Owens.
