Sioux Cityan dies in car accident

James L. Brummond, 57, Sioux City, died in a one-vehicle accidnet on West 19th Street at Harris Street Sunday night.

Police say Brummond was eastbound on West 19th near West High School when his car left the road, plowed into a mailbox, then struck a utility pole, a guide wire and a tree.

Brummond was transported to Marian Health Center where he died of head injuries, according to the Woodbury County Medical Examiner's Office.

James L. Brummond, 56, of Sioux City died Monday, May 5, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Boes, pastor at St. Boniface Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Brummond was born May 14, 1940 in South Sioux City, the son of Jack and Nellie (Leonard) Brummond. He attended South Sioux City public schools.

He married Barbara Cunningham on Feb. 7 1959, in Sioux City. She died March 26, 1997.

He was employed as a truck driver with Consumer Supply.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jerry and Diane of Sioux City and Pat and Kathy of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter and her husband, Jackie and Scott Barber of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Bill and Bev of South Sioux City; four grandchildren, John, Jennifer, Rachel and Mary Kate; an aunt; and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Brummond and Gene Leonard; and a grandson Jeremy.
