Jacob came from Nebraska to the Stornoway district with his parents in 1900. In 1910 he married Molly Engel. The couple farmed and raised their family. They later owned and operated a restaurant in Rhein from 1954 to 1956. Jacob and Molly had 8 children: Albert, Theodore, Lydia, August, Irene, Richard (Elsie Shewkenek), Alice (Steve Horwath), and Violet.
