(1928 - 2017)

Eugene "Cy" B. Hickmann, 88, of Newton, passed away Friday, March 03, 2017 at home.

Cy was born June 20, 1928, in Kiel, to the late Alvin and Minnie (Wallander) Hickmann. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1945 at the age of 16. At the age of 17, he joined the local union as an iron worker, retiring from Iron Workers Local 8 Milwaukee at the age of 62, in 1990. On May 15, 1954, he married the love of his life, Caroline Sprenger at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Osman. Cy was an avid tractor owner, collector and a member of the Two Cylinder Club. Cy enjoyed riding his motorcycle until the age of 87. A favorite hobby of Cy's was going to auctions on Saturdays to find treasures. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing his stories and wisdom, often referencing his "notebooks." His legendary stories will be remembered and retold by all who had the pleasure to meet and know him.

In addition to his wife, Caroline, he is survived by five children, Mary (Jim) Herr, Jean (Mike) Kuhfuss, Lori Johnson (special friend, Doug Bender), Judy Kuhn (special friend, Steve Konen) and Mark (Julie) Hickmann; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Hickmann; 15 grandchildren, Erin (Seth) Maurer, Ann (Zeb) Hickmann, Erik Hickmann, Ryan Hickmann, David (Jaci) Hickmann, Benjamin Hickmann, Nicole (Joe) Neils, Tom (Ashley) Herr, Greg (Tera) Herr, Robbie (Kim) Herr, Sara (Dave) Smith, Mark (Angela) Kuhfuss, Gina (Kevin) Gutschow, Jesse (Jenna) Rumpff and Bryce Kuhn; 21 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Keira, Tavia, Haven, Arianna, Gabby, Caroline, Mason, Ava, Kaden, Aubrey, Kinslee, Kiley, Keegan, Matthew, Jackson, Ben, Nick, Madyson, Kaylee and Kami; two sisters, Laverne Hartlaub and Joan Brennan and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Hickmann.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary, one granddaughter, Karissa Kuhn, one sister, Marion (Hilary) Wojta, two brothers, Norbert Hickmann and Ronald (Judy) Hickmann, mother and father-in-law, Fritz and Frieda Sprenger and three brothers-in-law, Victor Hartlaub, Arno (Rose) Sprenger and George (Ruth) Sprenger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (8100 Brunner Road, Newton) with the Rev. Dave Beaudry as celebrant. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum, Two Rivers.
