The family records show Theodore was a member of 'Knight of the Golden Ring'. He was one of 3 men who went from Herrick, Shelby Co., IL., trying to release prisoners from the Union Prison. They were arrested as they stepped off the train and put in prison, Camp Douglas, where Thodore died. The 3 men, one of which was his brother Presley, had used fake names. The 'Knights of the Golden Circle' was an extreme arm of the COPPERHEAD movement very strong in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. In 1864 the name was changed to 'Sons of Liberty'.
