Nancy served on the Salt Lake Teacher's Association Executive Board, Negotiator for the teachers in the district, and Faculty Representative for East High School. She also worked with her husband as an assistant Debate and Speech Coach earning the title of Second Diamond Coach Award from the National Forensic League in Ripon, Wisconsin. After her retirement from East High School in 1999, she taught mathematics for ten years in the Tooele School District.
Her hobbies included reading, both fiction and history, sewing, cooking, and spinning wool, which she refined from the raw product to wonderful shirts, coats, hats, and ties she made. She also worked energetically with genealogy and LDS Church History being a direct descendent of the early pioneers in Utah. Nancy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many of the auxiliaries. Two callings which she truly enjoyed was being the Relief Society President in several wards and her current assignment which was teaching the Gospel Doctrine Class. She was active also in politics and has served as Secretary for Her Precinct in Grantsville, Utah.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Donald L. Smith; Brothers: H. Clayton Smith (Sandra), James C. Smith (Sue), Willard C. Smith ( Rosemary); Sister: Florence Myers (Oliver), and many nephews and nieces. A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary in Salt Lake City, 260 East South Temple from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, on Monday, March 6, 2017, and at the Apple Street LDS Chapel (415 West Apple Street, Grantsville) from 10:30 -11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 with funeral services to follow at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
