Born February 12, 1922 in Salt Lake City to Albert G. Clayton and Lucile Wilcken Clayton.
Married Howard Grant Smith on December 20, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She attended the LDS Hospital School of Nursing, where she completed her RN Degree. She worked at the LDS Hospital and the Bryner Clinic. She was active in her community and was currently serving as the Captain of the Lindsey Garden Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Lucile was active throughout her life in serving her church, where she held numerous positions in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. She cared actively for those who were sick and helped to bring comfort to their lives. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and traveling. She was devoted to her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Grant Smith; three sons and their wives, H. Clayton (Sandra), James C. (Susan), and Willard C. (Rosemary); two daughters and their husbands, Florence Smith Myers (Oliver) and Nancy L. Smith (Donald); and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Janell Hardy (Grant) and Anne C. Petty (Stephen L.); and one brother and his wife, Philip J. Clayton (Margaret). She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Krantz (LaVar) and Norrine Clayton; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Ensign First Ward Chapel, 9th Avenue and D Street, on Monday, March 1, 1993 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 28, 1993 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, and prior to the services at the church on Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m.
Burial at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
