Again the death angel has visited our city and taken one of our most esteemed and loved citizens, Mary A. Eddington. After an illness of some weeks, Mrs. Eddington departed this life Wednesday afternoon, September 13, 1899. All that human hands could do had been done, but of no avail and calmly the sufferer passed to that beyond where all is peace and joy. Mary A. Brewer was the daughter of Branson and Elizabeth Brewer, being born in Warren county, Illinois, January 12, 1839. She was united in marriage with Robert M. Eddington July 5, 1858, and immediately moved to Keithsburg, which city has been her continuous home ever since, save for two years spent in Missouri. Her husband preceded her to the other life October 4, 1878. To these parents five children were born. They are: Alice, wife of M. J. O'Brien, Lizzie, wife of G. J. Bell, John B. Eddington, Lolla, wife of J. L. Noble, and Charles R. Eddington. Of her immediate family two brothers and two sisters are living, namely: Miss Lill Brewer who for many years has made her home with the deceased, Mrs. Fanny Davidson, John T. and William Brewer, all of St. Louis, Missouri. The funeral services were held from the family residence at three o'clock Friday afternoon, September 15th, Rev. W. H. Witter officiating and was attended by a large concourse of friends. In the death of Mrs. Eddington Keithsburg has lost one of the most estimable of women. In her was the embodiment of all the true qualities of mother and of true citizenship. She will be greatly missed.
