Abraham M. Bain is recorded as age 18 in the 1880 Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania census, (dated in June) a son of John W. Bain, 52. Mary M. Bain was age 42, and Minerva R. Bain, 12 [prob.13.] John W. Bain is recorded as a manufacturer.

Abraham's parents were recorded in the 1860 Marion, Marion, Ohio census with William A. Bain, age 8, and Mary Bain, age 7. John W. Bain is recorded as a merchant in the 1860 census. An Ohio marriage index records the marriage of John W. Bain and Mary Monett on May 29, 1860 in Hancock County, so Mary was the second wife of John W. Bain.

A. M. Bain is recorded in the 1895 Leavenworth Ward 2, Leavenworth, Kansas state census; however this census has incomplete, incorrect and fairly illegible information.

Abraham Bain is recorded in 1900 in Leavenworth Ward 1 and the 1910 Leavenworth Ward 3, Leavenworth County, Kansas census reports. He is recorded as a real estate agent in both of these reports.

The 1900 Leavenworth, Kansas, city directory also lists him as a real estate agent, a loan officer, and also as a fire insurnace agent at the First National Bank of Leavenworth.

He is recorded as age 68 in the 1930 census, a widower, residing with William & Clara Campbell in the town of Leavenworth. He is recorded as a Grand Scribe of the Odd Fellows.

-----------------

Note: Abraham's mother lived about 5 years longer than her husband and they are recorded together in the 1880 census. Records indicate that Mary Monnett was the second wife of John W. Bain, who is recorded as a merchant and a manufacturer. A. M. Bain and his sister, "Minnie," are recorded in early Leavenworth, Kansas, city directories, as was their half brother, William A. Bain.

Suggested Edit:

The "Abraham Monnett" first and middle name was in honor of his maternal family. Abraham's mother Mary Monnett Bain was the only surviving child to live to adulthood in a family of seven. She lost her father Abraham Monnett, brothers Isaac and Jeremiah, and a sister, Elizabeth, during a typhoid outbreak between July and September 1854.
