Mrs. Alicia Valdivia McGinnis, age 52, passed away due to complications from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, on Saturday, March 11, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Anchorage, Alaska.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1964, in Los Angeles, Calif., and grew up an avid Dodger's fan.

Alicia served seven years in the United States Marine Corps and attended college before moving to Anchorage in 2008.
She began working at Our Lady of Guadalupe as a receptionist and Spanish translator for the Church and continued her work there for six years.

"Alicia was a Marine, a loving wife, mother of two, church advocate and the bringer of smiles!"

She is survived by her husband, Tom McGinnis; daughter, Kelly McGinnis; son, Derek McGinnis; brothers, Jose, Armando, Jorge and Mario Valdivia; and sister, Isela Valdivia.

Services for Alicia will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3900 Wisconsin Street in Anchorage, and officiated by Father Andy. The Mass will begin at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow. The family asks that instead of flowers, to make contributions in Alicia's memory to the ALS Association: alsa.org/advocacy.

She will later be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
